Class C Misdemeanors in Texas

Class C misdemeanors in Texas are punishable only by a fine no higher than $500. Most people think of traffic tickets when you think of Class C misdemeanors. But some Class C charges are very important to fight.

My name is Eric Benavides and I am a Texas criminal defense lawyer. I want to speak to you today about Class C misdemeanors.

Class C misdemeanors are the lowest level of misdemeanors in Texas, punishable by only a fine of up to $500.

Now many times people ask me “well shouldn’t I just pay the fine why should I go to court and deal with this when I can just pay a little bit of money?”.

You should never just pay the fine

Paying the fine is a conviction and it can cause those to stay on your record for the rest of your life. Even a traffic violation can eventually add points, raise your insurance and lead to your driver’s license suspension. In more serious cases such as theft, drug paraphernalia or an assault case can look really bad on your record and you should fight it.

Impact on non-US citizens

If you’re not a US citizen these cases can still affect you. It’s very important to take care of these because at the end of the day, there’s so many different options on class C misdemeanors and they’re very easy to get dismissed you need to protect yourself and protect your record.
