Pre-Trial Interventions and Pre-Trial Diversions in Texas

Pre-Trial Interventions are a great way to get a second chance and earn a dismissal if you are guilty of a crime and are charged in a county that offers PTIs. Eligibility depends on case, county, and criminal history.

Hey everybody! Houston criminal defense attorney Eric Benavides here.

I wanted to talk to you a little bit today about pretrial diversions or pretrial interventions. These are a specific type of program that are available in some counties that allow you to earn a dismissal even though you might have done something that you weren’t supposed to do.
Now, typically this requires you to admit guilt, put some sort of package together to be reviewed by the DA and if they accept you into the program, it’s basically like doing a probation but you’re not on probation.

They give you a reset, which is typically up to one year. During that year you have to do certain things that you would have to do to on a probation, but you’re not on probation and if you do everything successfully, when you go back to court they will dismiss the case and your case would eventually be eligible to be expunged off your record.

So, it’s a great way to get a second chance. It’s a wonderful program that’s available in some counties.

If you have any specific questions about that or if you’re eligible for that please feel free to reach out to me. Again, my name is Eric Benavides, I’m a Houston criminal defense attorney and I’d be happy to talk to you.
